Who should have the MMR vaccine?
Children in the UK now receive MMR (or the combined MMRV vaccine, which also covers chickenpox) at 12 and 18 months as part of the routine NHS schedule. Gaps are particularly common among adults born between the 1970s and 1990s, when uptake was lower.
Travel is an important factor in how measles spreads internationally, and outbreaks continue to be reported in a number of destinations. Anyone who has not had measles and is not fully vaccinated is at greater risk when visiting affected countries, especially if staying with family or mixing closely with local communities.

Measles spreads very easily through the air and remains common or outbreak-prone in many countries, so anyone who is not fully vaccinated is at real risk of exposure when travelling. Two doses of MMR protect around 99 in 100 people against measles.

First dose
If you missed MMR as a child, one dose starts your protection. Bring any records you have so we can check what you need.
Second dose

Some travel vaccines are free through a GP surgery after a travel risk assessment. Check that route if it suits your dates, and tell us about anything already arranged so our advice takes it into account.
When the NHS is the right route
MMR is free on the NHS for anyone born on or before 31 December 2019 who missed one or both doses, without a travel risk assessment; ask your GP surgery. We offer it privately for anyone who would rather have it alongside their travel vaccines or is not registered with a GP nearby.

Can adults have the MMR vaccine?
Yes. If you were born on or before 31 December 2019 and missed one or both childhood doses, you can catch up as an adult, either free through your GP or privately with us.
How do I know if I have had both MMR doses?
Many adults are not sure, particularly those born between the 1970s and 1990s, when uptake was lower. If you cannot check your vaccination history with your GP, our clinic team can talk you through your options at a consultation.

Do I need a GP referral for a private vaccination?
No. You can book directly with us for any of the vaccines on this page. Same-day appointments are usually available, and there is no waiting list.
How much do private vaccinations cost?
Individual vaccines range from £40 to £240, and the price includes your appointment with the pharmacist. Meningitis B is priced separately at £140 per dose (£280 for the two-dose course). Get in touch and we will confirm the exact price for the vaccine you need before you book.
Which vaccines can I get free on the NHS instead?
Several, but only for certain ages or groups. Shingles, for example, is free on the NHS from age 65, and whooping cough is offered in pregnancy. If you are not sure whether you already qualify, ask us when you get in touch and we will always tell you honestly rather than sell you something you could get free elsewhere.
Can children have these vaccines?
For suitable vaccines, yes. We will confirm what is appropriate for your child’s age at the appointment. Some services at the clinic, such as blood tests and ear wax removal, are 16 and over, but vaccination age depends on the specific jab.
Is the private vaccine the same as the NHS one?
Yes. We use the same vaccines used in the NHS programmes, for example Shingrix for shingles and the standard MMR vaccine. The difference is convenience and access, not the vaccine itself.
Do you vaccinate for travel?

How long does each vaccine last?
