BLOOD TEST — AFTERCARE & SIDE EFFECTS
Most people feel completely fine after a blood test. This guide covers what's normal, what to watch for, and when to get in touch.
💉 Common Side Effects
🔵
Bruising
Very common. Usually fades within 3–5 days.
😵
Dizziness
Sit or lie down for a few minutes until it passes.
😣
Tenderness
Mild soreness at the site is normal for 1–2 days.
🩸
Minor Bleeding
Apply firm pressure for 2–3 minutes.
🤢
Nausea
Sit quietly, have a snack and a drink of water.
🌡️
Feeling Faint
Lie down, raise your legs, and let us know.
✅ Immediate Aftercare
🩹
Keep the dressing on for at least 15–30 minutes. If bleeding continues, apply firm pressure with a clean cloth.
💧
Drink plenty of water and have something to eat if you have been fasting — this helps prevent dizziness.
🛋️
Rest for a few minutes before leaving, especially if you felt lightheaded during the test.
🚫
Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous use of the arm used for the blood draw for the rest of the day.
❄️
If the site is bruised or sore, a cool compress (wrapped in a cloth — not directly on skin) can help reduce swelling.
