Chlamydia
Chlamydia is a very common sexually transmitted infection (STI) that many people don’t know they have. It can often be asymptomatic, meaning some people won’t experience any symptoms at all.
However, those that present with symptoms may notice an unusual discharge from the vagina or penis, and pain when peeing. Chlamydia is mainly passed on through unprotected vaginal, anal, and oral sex. If you have tested positive on a reliable chlamydia test kit, we can provide medication to help treat you.
Human Papillomavirus
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the name of a very common group of viruses. They do not cause any problems in most people, but some types can cause genital warts or cancer. We can provide vaccines that prevent the infection of vulnerable patients to HPV.
The types of HPV covered by the vaccine are premalignant genital lesions, premalignant anal lesions, cervical cancers, anal cancers and genital warts.
Thrush
Thrush is a common yeast infection that affects men and women. It’s usually harmless but it can be uncomfortable and keep coming back if untreated. It can affect the vagina, penis and skin. Symptoms of thrush depend on where it is on the body. It usually causes itchiness, irritation and a white discharge that looks like cottage cheese.
It is important to note that you’re more likely to get thrush if your skin is irritated or damaged, you’re taking antibiotics, or you have poorly controlled diabetes.
Sexual Health Screening and STI Blood Tests in Preston
Getting tested should not mean a long wait for a council clinic or an awkward conversation with your GP. At our Longridge clinic you can book a private sexual health screen, get your sample taken in a few minutes, and have your results sent straight to you. No referral, no lecture, and we will not share your results with your GP without your consent.
We test for the infections that matter, from a single worry to a full screen, and our GPhC-registered pharmacists talk you through exactly what each test covers before you commit to anything.
Confidential from start to finish
Discretion is the point of a private service, so we build it in. You book an appointment rather than sit in an open waiting room. Your sample is taken privately by a pharmacist. Your results come back to you directly, and what happens next is your call. If a test is positive we will explain your treatment options and where to get treated, and we will always support you to access any onward NHS care you need.
Screening is for anyone aged 16 and over who wants peace of mind: a new relationship, a one-off you would rather not think about, a partner who has told you to get checked, or just a routine health MOT. You do not need symptoms to test. In fact, many STIs carry none at all, which is exactly why testing is the only way to know.
Which sexual health test do I need?
If you want the reassurance of a broad screen, start with one of our advanced screens. If you have a single, specific concern, a targeted test is cheaper and just as reliable.
Comprehensive screens
- Female Sexual Health – Advanced Screen: From £189. Our most complete screen for women, covering the main sexually transmitted infections in one go. Available as a home finger-prick kit or an in-clinic appointment.
- Male Sexual Health – Advanced Screen: From £179. The equivalent broad screen for men. Home finger-prick or in-clinic.
- Sexual Health Profile (Bloods only): £149. A blood-based screen taken at the clinic, for the blood-borne infections (such as HIV, syphilis and hepatitis).
Targeted single tests
- Chlamydia & Gonorrhoea PCR: £149 (urine) / £169 (swab). The two most common bacterial STIs, from a urine sample or a swab taken at the clinic.
- HIV (1 & 2 / p24 antigen): £81. A modern fourth-generation HIV test.
- Syphilis (IgG/IgM): £95.
- Hepatitis B Surface Antigen: £79, or the fuller Hepatitis B Profile: £149.
- Hepatitis C Antibodies: £106.
Not sure which to pick? Call us on 01772 439054 and a pharmacist will help you choose the right test for your situation, with no pressure to go for the biggest one.
Home kit or in the clinic?
Both are available, and the right choice depends on what you are testing for.
Blood-borne infections (HIV, syphilis and hepatitis) can be collected with a simple home finger-prick kit for our advanced screens, which suits people who would rather not come in at all. You take a few drops of blood at home, post the sample to the lab in the pre-paid packaging, and get your results back the same way.
Chlamydia and gonorrhoea are the exception. They are not blood tests: they need a urine sample or a swab, so a screen that includes them has an in-clinic step. Coming in also means a pharmacist takes the sample properly, which removes the main reason home-kit results ever get delayed or rejected. If you would prefer to do the whole thing in one short, private appointment, we would encourage that.
How soon after sex can I test?
Testing too early is the single most common reason for a falsely reassuring result. An infection needs time to reach a level a test can detect, and that gap, called the window period, is different for each one. As a guide, based on NHS and BASHH national guidance:
If you test inside the window it can be worth retesting later to be sure. And if you think you may have been exposed to HIV in the last 72 hours, do not wait to test: contact a sexual health clinic or A&E straight away about PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis), which can reduce the risk of infection but has to be started quickly.
As a rule of thumb, a routine screen every 3 months is sensible if you regularly have new partners, or once a year if you are sexually active but not changing partners often. If you have symptoms, or a partner has told you they have an infection, book in rather than wait for a window period to pass.

How much does a sexual health test cost at your clinic?
Individual STI tests start from £79 (hepatitis B) and £81 (HIV). Our comprehensive screens are £179 for the Male Sexual Health Advanced Screen and £189 for the Female Sexual Health Advanced Screen, with a blood-only Sexual Health Profile at £149. Every price includes your appointment and a pharmacist explaining your results.
Is sexual health testing confidential?
Yes, completely. You book a private appointment rather than wait in an open clinic, your sample is taken discreetly by a pharmacist, and your results come back only to you. We will not share your results with your GP without your consent, though we will always support you to access any onward NHS care you need.
How long after unprotected sex should I get tested?
It depends on the infection. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea show up from about 2 weeks, HIV from around 6 to 7 weeks, and syphilis and hepatitis from about 12 weeks. If you test early it is worth retesting later. If you may have been exposed to HIV in the last 72 hours, seek advice about PEP straight away rather than waiting to test.
How do I know if I am affected by erectile dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction is when you are either unable to get an erection or keep an erection long enough to have sex. It is common for most men to experience this at some point in their lives, particularly in men over 40. It is usually caused by stress, tiredness, drinking too much alcohol or as a side effect of some medicines.
However, you should seek treatment if the problem keeps happening as it may be a sign of a health condition that can be treated. This is when having a consultation with one of our qualified pharmacists will be beneficial as we can provide the same treatment and medication your doctor can provide – but without the difficulties in getting an appointment and with short notice appointments available.
How to delay periods?
Delaying periods with medication can be a great option for women who have hectic or important schedules that they need to stick to. From weddings and beach vacations to important exams and business trips, our clinic can provide the medication you need to delay your period without sacrificing your plans.
Norethisterone is tailored specifically for you with expert guidance from our knowledgeable staff and comes at an affordable price. Our clinic also provides complete consultation on delayed-period medications to ensure that they are used safely and appropriately.
How do I get a chlamydia test kit?
Most local sexual health clinics will offer free and reliable chlamydia test kits for both males and females. If you are unsure whether you have contracted chlamydia then it is always best to get tested to avoid delay in treatment and minimise the risk of spreading it. Some online providers also provide reliable test kits which require payment and vary in price. Although there is no shame in having chlamydia and healthcare professionals will always offer judgement-free care, private test kits that can be ordered online are a great way for discreet testing.
What are the side effects of the morning after pill?
Generally speaking, one-off use of the morning after pill will not cause any serious or long-term side effects. However, it can cause:
- Headaches
- Stomach pain
- Make your next period earlier, later, or more painful than usual
Nausea - Vomiting – if this occurs then contact us as you may need another dose if you are sick within 2-3 hours of taking the medication
If your symptoms don’t go away after a few days then it is important to see your doctor.
