Description

The Female Hormone Profile is a targeted blood test designed to assess key reproductive hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle, fertility, and overall hormonal balance. Hormonal fluctuations are common throughout life and can influence energy levels, mood, weight, and reproductive health.

This profile is suitable for women who want to better understand their hormone balance, investigate symptoms, or monitor hormonal changes related to fertility, cycle irregularities, or life stages such as perimenopause.

Why This Test?

Female reproductive hormones work together to regulate ovulation, menstrual cycles, and overall hormonal wellbeing. When these hormones fall out of balance, symptoms can develop gradually and may be difficult to interpret without testing.

This profile focuses on four key hormones:

FSH and LH

These pituitary hormones regulate ovarian function and ovulation. Changes in FSH and LH levels can indicate fertility status, ovarian reserve, or hormonal transition phases.

Oestradiol (E2)

Oestradiol is the primary form of oestrogen and plays a vital role in menstrual regulation, bone health, mood, and temperature control.

Prolactin

Prolactin influences reproductive hormone signalling. Elevated levels can interfere with ovulation and menstrual regularity and may contribute to fertility issues or cycle changes.

Testing these hormones together provides a clearer picture of hormonal balance and supports accurate interpretation of symptoms or cycle changes.

Uses of This Test
  • Assess reproductive hormone balance
  • Investigate irregular menstrual cycles
  • Support fertility assessment
  • Assess perimenopausal changes
  • Monitor hormone-related conditions
  • Baseline female hormone screening

Our home finger-prick tests use the same accredited laboratories as our clinic tests. While clinic tests allow for more comprehensive panels, home tests are highly accurate for the parameters they measure.

No, you don’t need a GP referral. You can book directly with us for any blood test. We are a private clinic offering direct access to comprehensive blood testing.

We will only draw blood from those aged 16 and above due to legal requirements.

If you have used our clinic to complete a blood test, we send off all samples the same day to the lab to be processed. If you have used a home test kit, then once your sample has been sent off the lab will analyse your sample. Results are usually received within 72 hours.

Your home blood test kit will contain easy-to-follow instructions on how to take your own finger blood sample. If you have any concerns or questions prior to using the kit, please contact our phlebotomists who will be happy to assist.

There is no preparation required prior to taking any of the blood tests. Please simply remember to stay hydrated prior to your appointment. This is to help your veins dilate better to enable a quick and efficient blood sample to be taken and reduce the risks of feeling faint following your blood test.

Please inform the phlebotomist before your test if you are currently taking any blood thinning medication.

Fasting is not required for most blood tests. However, if your profile includes cholesterol tests and you’ve previously had high levels, consider fasting for 8 hours beforehand. While not essential, fasting can provide more accurate results.

Note: Fasting means abstaining from any food and drink, except for water.
