Saxenda
Saxenda (Liraglutide) works by regulating your hunger. It acts like the GLP-1 hormone in the body which is responsible for regulating your appetite. Ultimately Saxenda works to reduce your consumption of food by triggering signals to your brain that you are full therefore eating less calories and losing weight. It is suitable for those with:
- A BMI of 30 and above
- A BMI of 27 with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or type 2 diabetes.
This medication is available for those aged between 18 and 75.
Wegovy
Wegovy® (semaglutide) injection 2.4 mg is an injectable prescription medicine used for adults with obesity (BMI ≥30) or overweight (excess weight) (BMI ≥27) who also have weight-related medical problems to help them lose weight and keep the weight off. Wegovy works the same as Saxenda so should not be used alongside it. Wegovy is a once a week dosage rather than a daily dosage. Wegovy is licensed in the UK to aid with weight loss.
